Dear Group, I e-mailed whole foods this morning in response to the message
that was posted that they will be discontinuing some of the gluten free
bakeshop items. I got a prompt and reassuring response that this is only
temporary while they work on expansion and distribution issues. Hooray!
Please see the message below, Lynn

Hello,

I have gotten a few emails this morning about the discontinuation of some of
the offerings from our Gluten Free Bakehouse. I have a feeling a concerned
customer has sent my email out to a group, so if you wouldn’t mind
forwarding this email on, I would appreciate it.

The decision to temporarily discontinue some of our gluten free items was
made by the Bakery Group on the national level.

You see, our Gluten Free Bakehouse is really one of a kind and it is still
really in its infancy stages. It is not an extremely large facility and at
this time, we have some of our stores that have more team members than the
GF Bakehouse does. But it is growing. It is a very difficult task to start
and maintain a Gluten Free Facility. We have started out small in order to
make sure we can maintain the GF integrity without any question.

We knew that there was a demand for freshly baked GF items, but the
response, as I am sure you know, has been overwhelming. We were running into
many issues from distribution, to quality issues due to the intense and long
summer heat.

We thought long and hard about this and as a group decided that sometimes
you have to take a small step backwards in order to take a giant leap
forward. By temporarily discontinuing our slowest moving items, we will be
able to strengthen our team at the Bakehouse, ensure better distribution,
decrease and hopefully end out of stocks, as well as hopefully offer some
more seasonal offerings.

I stress to you that these items are only going away temporarily. We will
most likely bring some of the items back in a seasonal nature and possibly
tweak some of the formulas to ensure a better and more consistent product.

I hope that all of you know that we at Whole Foods are committed to
providing the most gluten free items that we can. Being vegan myself, I
know what it means to need the availability of “alternative” items. That is
why I shop at Whole Foods, and why I have worked here for seven years now.

I have copied Lee Tobin on this email, he is the Facility Team Leader at
the Gluten Free Bakehouse.

Thankyou all for your concern, and please trust me, that we hope to bring
back as many of these items as we can. We hope that you continue to enjoy
the other 20 items we currently carry as well as some of our other GF items
from vendors such as Foods By George and Josef’s Gluten Free.

 Sincerely,

Shimme
