Tomi,
Band openings can happen on any frequency. The propagation conditions that
cause them will be different. Openings on the hf bands occur through the
ionosphere. On the VHF bands openings will be caused by troposphere
propagation. The ionosphere will play less of a part on frequencies above 6
meters as the frequency goes higher.
