Hello fellow listers:

A good friend of mine has gotten himself into a heck of a jam, and, having
been there before myself, I'd like to help him out. We believe that he has
inadvertently muted his sound card, (he's using JAWS with eliquence; no
hardware synthesizer and no "mute sound" toggle key on his keyboard), and he
has next to no access to sighted assistance, though that's ultimately what
he'll need to address the current computer crisis. Is there any way to set
up windows 98 (second edition) in such a way that the sound card is never,
ever, ever able to be muted, or, alternatively, to set up a "sound mute"
toggle which would at least enable a blind person to turn the sound back on
where it is suspected that it has been inadvertently turned off?

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

John McCann
