LEGAL RESIDENCE WITHIN THE CITY OF MADISON
IS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT FOR THIS POSITION

APPLICATION PROCESS: Applicants competing for this position must
complete a formal City of Madison Job Application Form and respond to
the attached Supplemental Questionnaire. All materials are due in the
Human Resources Department by 4:30 p.m. on May 21, 2004.

SALARY: $1,337.20 bi-weekly (Note: This is an unclassified position
employed under an individual employment contract with an incentive pay
component of up to 20% in additional base salary by exceeding minimum
documented sales and sponsorship targets.)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This is responsible professional and
administrative work in planning for and administering a multi-faceted
sponsorship and group sales program for the Overture Center for the Arts
programs and events; and providing related staff support. Under the
general supervision of the Associate Director for Programming, work
involves extensive public contact and sales activities. Work is
performed with a high degree of independence.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and implement plans
for selling group tickets to regional businesses, organizations,
fraternal clubs, etc., seeking social events and entertainment. Make
sales and educational presentations and "cold" calls to generate
potential Center users. Attend sales conferences, trade shows, and other
related events to promote Overture Center and develop clientele.
Coordinate group sales campaign planning and execution, including
business cultivation, preparing marketing materials, direct mail
solicitations, new and ongoing client lists, the creation and design for
narrative appeals, and the timetable for annual mailings.

Initiate, develop and administer a program to generate businesses as
event sponsors. Identify, research, and rate prospective businesses as
event sponsors. Develop and make customized solicitations to potential
event sponsors. Develop and administer a corporate program of "official
Overture Sponsorship." Develop and maintain a network of client
contacts. Organize solicitation, recognition, and stewardship of
individuals, foundations and business supporters. Coordinate cooperative
sales campaigns and materials in association with the food service
vendor, the Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau and other
business and community partners. Work cooperatively with the GMCVB,
Downtown Madison, Inc. and the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce to
enhance usage of the Overture Center. Work in cooperation with Overture
Center Ticket Office and Event staff to ensure overall client
satisfaction. Work in cooperation with the ticket office to reserve and
confirm group ticket purchases. Prepare materials and reports on events
and usage to be used to evaluate the achievement of marketing and patron
usage goals. Maintain related research, recordkeeping and reports as
necessary. Make recommendations on operational policies, procedures, and
service changes that will improve client satisfaction. Assist with other
Overture events as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of related
marketing and sales theories, techniques and practices. Thorough
knowledge of the relevant principles, practices, and techniques of
fundraising, including the solicitation of major contributions. Ability
to develop and present persuasive sales presentations and close sales.
Ability to respond to the needs of potential customers, and develop
related recommendations as required. Ability to communicate effectively,
both in writing and orally, including speaking before large and small
groups, and making "cold" calls. Ability to prepare letters,
memorandums, and meaningful and concise reports. Ability to carry out
administrative details efficiently and independently. Ability to
establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships
with clients, potential clients, patrons, the Greater Madison Convention
and Visitors Bureau, employees, managers, community groups and
representatives, vendors and the generate public. Ability to use
computer applications as they relate to contact management and related
recordkeeping and reporting activities. Ability to maintain adequate
attendance.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: One year of directly related sales experience.
Such experience would normally be gained after graduation from an
accredited college or university with a major in business, marketing, or
a related field. Other combinations of training and/or experience which
can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledges,
skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position
will also be considered.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a valid driver's
license or the ability to meet the transportation requirements of this
position.
