Thanks to everybody who responded to my post yesterday. My 6-year-old
has had two fractures in the last two weeks (one left foot, one right
foot) and I was wondering who would diagnose osteoperosis.

I had about 20 people reply. Eight said to contact a pediatric
endocrinologist (this included an orthopedic surgeon and a pediatrician
who were asked the question). Two people recommended an pediatric
orthopedic surgeon. One person recommended a pediatric GI specialist.

Sadly, I heard from about five people who are in similar situations --
small children with fractures and unsure what to do next. I also heard
from several people whose children are doing extremely well now that
they're taking supplemental calcium.

Other advice:

-- get a Dexa-Scan

-- take calcium supplements. Recommended for kids who can't swallow pills were (1) Calcium Citrate with Magnesuim Citrate and Vit D. in a liquid flavored product "Life-time" available at Vitamin World stores. (2) Twin-Lab's Tri-Boron Plus (a capsule) (3) Powdered calcium citrate available from glutenfreeda.com

-- need blood tests to check arathyroid hormone level, blood calcium level, etc.

-- develop a program of weight-bearing exercising

I now have two appointments -- with a pediatric endocrinologist on Feb 25 and a pediatric orthopedic surgeon on Feb 27. Thanks to everyone who helped with this difficult situation.
