HI,

First of all if you have a regular floppy disk, it does not use an IDE
cable, it uses a floppy cable. If you are using a ZIP drive (does not
read floppies) or a SuperDrive (also reads floppies) that would be an
IDE Device and depending on the BIOS may be set as drive A:

When I have a system component that was working and all of a sudden
stops, my first thought is to check for a virus. Even if the system is
loaded with a anti virus software, a new virus may be out causing the
problem.

I will go on line and use www.housecall.antivirus.com by trend micro and
check the system.
It has found things that installed antivirus software has not found.

Secondly, You did not mention which OS you are using. Do you have a
known good, virus free, bootable diskette? Like a win 95 or 98 setup
disk. Can you change your BIOS settings and try and boot from this
diskette? This may also help determine if it is really a hardware
problem or a software problem.

Thanks and have a Great Day!

Joe Lore
