How long before you lost weight

I started losing the very next day, which probably reflected some water loss
even though I had generally been eating low carb. So far I've lost 8 lbs in
11 days and my clothes are much looser. Not bad for a middle-aged woman.

Last night I had pot roast w/the natural au jus (seasoned with Herbamare)
and sweet potato.

Today for lunch (I'm not a breakfast easter) I had a 4oz pan-broiled patty
of ground chuck (20% fat) and 3/4 c. blueberries.

About 3 days into the diet, I decided to weigh my 3/4 c. blueberries. What
I found was the the volume in the measuring cup was quite a bit less than a
weight measurement as given by the USDA database--88 gms as opposed to 116.
I'm now weighing my blueberries and some other foods since the SLD does
mention amounts when it comes to the non-meat foods. The small-med sweet
potato is a little different since I don't know what actually constitutes
that size. I'm sure the growers' have a grading scale, but I don't know
what it is. Generally, I'm eating between 150-170 gms of sweet potato.
What I do is eyeball a portion size that looks like it's the amount I want
to eat, and then I weigh it. I've been weighing my meats too, but that
doen't mean I'm limiting my intake. I've not calculated calories yet, but I
think I'll do that pretty soon. Ja, ja, I know none of this measuring &
weighing approach is paleo, but so what. This diet is working so well that
I've been really curious about what variables might be involved other than
the (flawed?) pyruvate theory.

BTW, fwiw, I used a Ketostix last night and it pinked right out to moderate
ketones. I was surprised by this since I thought that fruit would most
definitely keep a person from entering ketosis. I'll say this--I could
never do Atkins because on it I had a profound electrolyte disturbance and
unslakeable thirst that worsened the problem. On this diet I feel good!
While googling for information about the SLD I ran across an obituary about
Dr. A that mentioned the Atkins<Anchell<Pennington connection. It really
does make me wonder why Atkins banned fruit during induction when it's not
necessary to do so. And I feel much, much better in ketosis on this diet
than I ever did when I tried Atkins. --Will say I'm doing the SLD
paleo-style, without the rice or white potato, but I do have black coffee.
HTH.
