Brains?? And what about BSE? Uff!

I just read in our local New Mexico paper today that studies continue into
the chronic wasting disease of our wild deer herds.

The mule deer on the White Sands Misstle Range, right next to the area I
live in, have been infected and for the last two yrs. hunters have been
asked to bring the dead deers' heads in for testing. So far, eight cases of
chronic wasting have been detected. The syndrome is similar to BSE.

The deer share their range w/ large African antelope that someone imported
decades ago and which are now plentiful in our desert. It is most strange
to see them from the highway. They are quite beautiful and I hope they
don't fall prey to the disease too. Of course, the main worry is the
concern for the cattle industry in southern New Mexico. Cattle are, by law,
allowed to roam free here. If you don't want them on your land, you need to
fence your land off. Cattle have right-of-way.
