It would be interesting to know whether the "grass fed" beef are sent to
feed lots to bulk up on grains for several weeks prior to slaughter. I
have contacted the producers of beef sold at our local health food store and
found that their "grass fed" beef has all been sent to feed lots.

One strange thing I found recently is that our local dog/cat "health food
store" now keeps a lot of meat in their freezers. The meat is all pasture
raised and includes organ meat from all major organs. The meat is from cows
(not steers) that have stopped having calves and are of no use to the
ranchers here in New Mexico. The meat is not sent to feed lots because it
is meant for dogs on a raw diet; it has not been given hormones or
antibiotics and is truly free range. I want to talk w/ the owner soon to
find out if she thinks the meat is fit for human consumption. I have some
concern re. the slaughter facilities and how clean they are - if they are
ever inspected, etc. The freezers also contain free range buffalo.

Another deal was wild salmon at $2.99/lb, down significantly from the normal
price. I no doubt stocked up on that, too,

Dori, this isn't the season for wild salmon - at least not Alaskan wild
salmon. It is usually only sold in late summer/early fall in the U.S. Do
you know where the salmon was caught? I'm afraid they may have sold farmed
salmon... hope not.
