Well.....there is a method in there, Rick.

You see, the customer really wanted a complete new rig but was a bit short
of the ready.  However, he had enough to cover a new hard drive and CD
writer.

So, rather than have his new drive cluttered up with a BIOS overlay that
would need to be dumped later, he's temporarily missing a few gigs of
storage space.

When he's ready, I'll pull out the HD and CDRW and build them into a new
system.

I thought it was a reasonable trade.

And yes, you're correct - no BIOS overlay, just a jumpered fabrication of
the truth.
