I know exactly what you mean about sore spots feeling "crunchy".  I get
a two-hour weekly massage and I have several consistently crunchy
spots...ankles, shoulders, back, neck.  I don't think it is the tendons
that are crunchy, though, just the muscles.  My tight tendons just feel
hard/solid.  So weird how our bodies work!!
