Adrienne,
I sure don't think you advocate people chowing down the grains. I
particularly like to hear about people eating liver, kidney and marrow. I
would agree that there is no evidence that eating fat is bad for you unless
you eat grains as well. i.e. heart disease etc are diseases of grain eating
societies. I agree 150% that insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes epidemic
in the US is likely caused by too many starches and sugar (plus lack of
exercise and omega 3 and a few other factors). You keep eating those Aussie
lamb chops.

I am not a Marxist. The corporate kleptocracy was a tongue-in-cheek
reference to Jared Diamond's Gun Germs and Steel, which is on most
Paleo-dood's essential reading lists. Diamond takes us on a quick tour of
how things change as societies get more complex. The book got the Pulitzer
prize.

Kleptocracy is a reasonable description of most societies (including
Marxist), the exception being small hunter gatherer bands. (Todd can
probably comment well on this). If you're a red blooded American who
believes in liberty, fraternity and equality, maybe you could read Diamond's
book to see how those ideals are epitomised in the hunter-gatherer
lifestyle. I'm not critical of kleptocracies, I accept them as they are, but
I find it a useful way of thinking.

It remains interesting that the economics work so that grass fed grain is
far cheaper than grain fed in Australia, but far more expensive in America.
I can't recall if Jo Robinson discussed that (I'll email her and see what
she says). Maybe it's got to do with government subsidies. Grain fed animals
require far more labour and veterinary care and drugs etc, and their meat
spoils more quickly. On paper, grain fed should be far more expensive.

When people tell me that grain fed steaks are to die for, I ask them to
change the last word to "from".

Back to the chow,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Think about what I've written a bit more carefully before attributing things
to me that I simply did not say. I don't advocate that humans chow down on
grains. ..........
