I recently found a place in England that does a good job repairing
Optacons. I asked the repairer, Dave Godfrey, to write a little about his
service which appears below. I hope some of you find this useful. My
Optacon works beautifully now.

Subject: Optacon Repairs

I recently found a location that still repairs Optacons. Dave Godfrey
loves the machines and does an excellent job. I sent in my Optacon and it
works beautifully now. I asked him to write a little description of his
services which I include below. Please pass it along to your friends and
also please reply to Dave at the address included in the description.

Hi Christine...here goes...

Dear Optacon User

I have been servicing Optacons now for the last 15 years and still think
that they are the most versatile reading aids that were ever invented for
access to both type and handwritten text.

I know how valuable and essential the Optacon is for daily use and would
like to offer you a reliable service for whenever you may need a repair
undertaken. My aim is to provide an estimate the day I receive the Optacon
and once approval and acceptance of the quote has been received I would
complete the service work within 2 working days.

As a price guide, the cost of a general service that includes signal
waveform testing, battery charge/ dischrage test and cleaning the camera and
pin array would be UK£30. For the more delicate and time consuming jobs,
like repairing the camera cable, the labour charge would be UK£60. Please
note that prices for any parts that may be required would be quoted for
before installing.

If you would like to contact me, you can do so either via email to
