Since you have everything running perfectly, I hop you are considering going way over 1ghz, otherwise you won't see the difference. If you are planning on 1.7-2 ghz, you have no choice but to get a new mobo, but if that's all you change, you may not have to re-register XP.  You should probably stick to an ASUS mobo, but how your OS will react to the new mobo is kind of unpredictable.  If you listed the mobo you're considering, the CPU, and the old mobo/CPU combo, someone on the list may have some experience with such a change.  Personally, if I had an 800 working just perfectly, unless I had a real need for speed, I'd leave it alone. A 2.0 ghz that doesn't work right isn't worth much against a tweaked well-oiled 800.  In the absence of a compelling need I'd stick with the old proverb that if "ain't broke, don't fix it".
