Randy (and other who provided assistance):

The problem has been solved. I had to reinstall Windows ME in a new folder
and to reinstall all of my software (a lenghtly process).

I would recommend this process to others who have spect more than 8-10
hours trying to diagnose a similar problem. I wasted much more than this.

Well, those symptoms are likely a telltale that a CPU /motherboard and/or
RAM problem arose. This can be caused by a overclocked CPU.
