        AFFORDABLE HOUSING ROUNDTABLE

Mayor Susan J.M. Bauman is hosting a roundtable discussion to brainstorm
ways that the City of Madison and other communities can partner with
developers and encourage bankers and developers to address the shortage of
quality affordable housing. Preserving and increasing the existing stock of
affordable housing in Madison has been a key concern of Bauman's
administration since she was first elected to office in 1997.
Mayor Bauman has invited area bankers, developers and officials from
surrounding communities throughout Dane County to attend the half-day event.
The Affordable Housing Roundtable is being held Thursday, October 4, from
9:00 - noon, at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center.
"These partnerships are essential," Mayor Bauman said, "if we are to move
from simply talking about the barriers to building affordable housing to
taking action to remove those barriers. I hope that we leave this meeting
with definite action items that will improve all of our efforts to create
more affordable housing."
Fannie Mae, the nation's largest source of financing for home mortgages, is
co-sponsoring the Affordable Housing Roundtable. Drucilla Pasley, director
of Fannie Mae's Wisconsin Partnership Office, will speak about "House
Wisconsin," a five-year, $7-billion investment plan to finance affordable
housing for more than 77,000 Wisconsin families.
Scott Fergus, president of C-CAP, Inc., and executive director of Community
Housing Initiative, Inc., will deliver the keynote address at the
conference. C-CAP is a non-profit housing development corporation.
Community Housing Initiative is a non-profit housing administration and
housing rehab corporation. Over the last five years they have collaborated
in public/private programs that have resulted in the investment of over $275
million in public and private funds that have assisted over 5,000 households
in Wisconsin purchase, rehabilitate or gain access to a home.
Advance registration is required. Participants will be breaking into
smaller groups during the conference to explore specific housing related
issues before reporting back to the whole group.
