You can add more hard drive "memory" to some TIVO units.  It
is done using the LINUX  operating system and several utilities
all of which are available for free with detailed instructions.

I believe that the info is contained in the archives of the "TIVO
Underground."  You should start by going to the web site,

    www.tivocommunity.com

It is supposed to be fairly simple - easy enough for anyone who
has ever built a pc from scratch.  However, it may void your
warranty.  All the ramifications are discussed on the web sites.
