For those who are interested, I just got a 3Com Home Ethernet Gateway
from Tiger Direct for $49. A very good price. I had been running a 2
network LAN with a hub and 1 computer had 2 NICS in it (one for the LAN
and the other for my DSL modem). Without the 3Com Gateway I had both
computers sharing internet using a free software Proxy (Proxy+). After
I got the Gateway running the 2 things that I found that were of value
to me was,

1) The Gateway holds the DSL link so when I reboot the comptuers I don't
reconnect to DSL so I keep the same IP address.
2) With the free software Proxy (Proxy+) I had to perform special setups
for AOL IM, Yahoo IM, Carbon Copy, BearShare and others. With the 3Com
Gateway, the only software that need some special setup was Carbon Copy.

I also found a great software program that will poll the Gateway to find
the IP address and then when if finds a new IP address it will email you
and publish via FTP a new document so you can update a "redirect" web
page to your dynamic IP address.

That package is KMP (Keep Me Posted) and is free at,
