Is this a new scanner? Does it do that to any photo, even one that is
perfect with no scratches? First look to see if the glass is dirty or
streaked. If so, spray some Windex on a soft towel and clean it up. If
not, you need to look at the scanner settings (reset them to factory
defaults in the HP precisionscan software). If that doesn't do it, then you
need to call HP support if the thing is still under warranty. Another place
to look for help is www.hp.com. You can find a user's forum or search their
database for problems with this scanner. Does it give streaked results in
only one program, or is it present in any program you use to scan (i.e. if
you scan from Photoshop is it streaked, but not in Paint shop Pro?) Does it
streak text scans? Does it streak B/W photos or only color? Does it streak
pages with text and color? Were the photos themselves scratched or
streaked? Is the glass on the scanner scratched? It is hard to diagnose
such a problem from far away since there are so many possibilities. If you
can't find an answer at an HP forum or in their database, do call their tech
support.

The streak is on the monitor and also prints that way too. There isn't
anything between the printer and scanner. I don't know what a passthrough
plug is or where it is.

Is that what you see on your monitor screen after you scan it, or is that
what you get after you print it? If it's on your monitor screen it could be
your scanner or the software settings. If it happens after you print it, it
could be your printer and printer software. Is there anything connected
between your scanner and the computer, or is there anything plugged into the
passthrough plug on your scanner? Please be a little more specific about
when the problem occurs (i.e. monitor or printed page), and how the scanner
is connected. Joel

Subject: [PCBUILD] Scanjet 3200C

Hi, I have a Intel(r)Celeron (tm) Processor, 95.0 MB RAM, Compaq computer,
Model 5724 with Windows 98SE and an HP Scanjet 3200C. When
I scan a photo I get several colored streaks down one side of the picture.
Could anyone tell me if there is something I can do to get rid of the
streaks. I'm a newbie so please use simple terms.
