I just build an AMD System and so far the only problem that I have had is the memory, but that was my fault because I bought low end memory, when I knew better not too.

here is my specs

*Athlon (T-bird) 1Ghz $190
*Asus A7V $145 mother board... it comes with 2-ultra DMA/100 and DMA/66 for a total of 4 IDE ports... it also has 5 usb and you can add 2 more. You can get built in sound( but I did not get it)
*Asus AGP-V7100 GeForce2 MX, MB $100

I recommend to get a case that has a 300 watt power supply (but that is just my opinion)

I found 256MB PC133 for about $160

One more thing... I normally get the processor and the motherboard together and have them test it for me that way I can get the 3 year warranty on them
