Actually it's more than just a false-cognate lexic kind of thing...my friend
did say that the two were similar, caused by protein that doesn't get the
genes working right, and have very similar effects.  He said that research
in MS is valuable to muscular distrophy, and probably MS could be "cured"
first.

Regarding musc distrophy tho, while he recognizes the diet aspect of it (he
actually said to me his brothers "eat like you, a lot of meat and veggies")
it seems that gene therapy holds more hope for finding a cure.

I read up on musc distrophy a little more yesterday.  The muscular distrophy
assoc has a fairly thoroughly informative site out there at
