Continue to use TCP/IP and NetBeui. Just make sure that NetBeui is ONLY
bound to the local network and not to the Internet.

A pretty good link that shows how is here:

Fellow Listers:

   I have a small(3 computers)home network set up using a 5-Port Linksys
Workgroup Hub. Each computer has its own IP address. I am also connected to
a cable modem. The networking "guru" at the office said I need to switch my
protocol from TCP/IP to NETBEUI to prevent intrusion from people on my local
node(I have file and print sharing enabled). I've started noticing slowdowns
in file transfers between the computers. Is is safe to return to TCP/IP? I
use Zone Alarm as my firewall.
