I am not sure how IPC works, but it is the service that allows other
computers to access your machine over the network. When I shared my folders
on my NT machine for my students to access, I found that they still could
not get to them till I enabled sharing of IPC. This is normally set when you
configure your computer to "allow others to connect" to your computer - this
can be found in the NT user manager policy section. Under Windows 2000, the
setting defaults to share IPC. I don't know much more than that, but you
probably don't need to allow IPC to access the Internet. Perhaps Dave
Gillett can shed more light on this - his answers are always enlightening
and accurate.

I am running ZoneAlarms on my PC. With this I could make sure which program
has the permit to get to the Internet. For all but one programs I was sure
what I'm doing with them (allow - not allow - asking each time etc.)since I
know what they are expected to do. Onle 1 thing is anoying, the IPC server
MSIPCSV.exe ver 1.01. This resides in Windows\system and everytime I
connect to Internet it tries to get on as well. However I blocked it 'cause
