I reread this several times and there is just no way for us to provide any
definitive answers without a lot more information.

You describe Kernel32 faults, without telling us the exact message, which
would be the device or devices that created the faults, (it is listed in the
error message. Your also mention "various programs" creating this issue
without mentioning what programs you are using. This may also provide a
clue. These items allow us to narrow down your issue and are important.

One thing you might attempt to try is to disable L2 cache in your system
Bios/CMOS settings. Typically, if you have a hardware conflict, (the
manufacturer has put together components in the PC that do work well
together), this will relieve the pressure on the system and decrease these
errors. Which would lead you to understand that the PC has hardware issues
and should be returned to the manufacturer for replacement.

As far as loading WIndows98, downloading all your drivers required for
the hardware in the system is a normal function for loading either Windows95
or Windows98. The disk provided by HP with your PC that includes the
drivers for your system is an HP disk for your particular PC. You can go
to HP's web site and download the drivers for your keyboard, modem,
sound card and other devices. Then when they are requested during the
install phase of Windows98 you can use these files, this is normal in loading
Windows98.

I wish I could provide you with more definitive answers, but what you are reporting
is just way to vague and we need more input from you about this PC. I would
not accept the response from HP that Windows95 is corrupt... they sold you
the system and they are responsible for insuring that it works without problems
during the first month at least and during the warranty period, assuming a
one year warranty period.
