Frank,
Even my old Toshiba T-1000 (a lowly 8088 PC) had an embedded keypad. I
don't think anyone has ever made a laptop OR notebook without it.
The same keystrokes should work if you also hold down the
FN key (to access the keypad) while you hold ALT.
