https:// (as opposed to http://) is a basically a security protocol, usually used for transmitting sensitive
material such as credit card info. It's used when one tries to access a site where high security is paramount
and required, such as online banking. Information transmitted between computers using the https protocol is
encrypted. I believe that most browsers are capable of using the https protocol without additional encryption
software, but some sites (specifically banks) require a higher level of encryption, namely 128-bit. If your
friend can access some https sites, but not others, he or she probably needs to download 128-bit encryption
