I am having a problem resolving an issue with six PCs I am helping to maintain for our church that are used for training, etc. They all exhibit a problem with the Windows Explorer "File Types" task under "Tools," "Folder Options." That is, the "Change" and "Advanced" buttons on the dialog box are disabled (grayed out) for all file types -- including for those that have applications/actions assigned. As a result its impossible to make a change in associations in any way other than at the time a new application, such as Media Play, is installed.
I have scanned "Helps" and the Microsoft Knowledge Base for relevant discussion, and tried a couple of the suggestions found in several postings located with a Google search (such as reviewing or adding registry entries) with no success in re-enabling the buttons. I suspect that someone may have applied a local Policy Editor change to disable them but am unfamiliar with how to check this.
Have others on this forum run across this issue, and found ways to fix it?
