Larry,
Yes, 4.08 is a maintenance release to version 4.0 of
Netscape's browser and, yes, I did go back a few
version to find a stable version. In my experience, on
5 seperate PC(s), version 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7 were TOO
unstable for my to keep on my system. It's important
for me to have my system running and although I do
like a couple of the additional feature in the later
browser (truth be told, I don't see any compelling
features going from 4.6 to 4.7).
I do have to have both IE and Netscape running on my
system in order to facilitate some of the web
development that I do.
Also, IE does have a tendency to get a mind of its own
as well but version 5.0 of IE is far less finicky than
version 4.5, 4.6 or 4.7 of Netscape -- at least in my
experiences.
I am looking forward to seeing, if there is ever a
release, what becomes of the Mozilla browser,
AOL/Netscape open source browser effort. Since the
development process seems to be proceeding at a
snail's pace, I'm not holding my breath.
