  I cannot seem to find information about such a modem from Aopen.
However, several inexpensive brands of 56K PCI modems appear to be
"WinModems" (that may be a USR trademark), which means that they rely
on a driver and the PC's CPU to do much of the work.  This *might* be
what you're seeing.
