This thread may start quite a discussion, but here are some of my own
experiences and comments from them. You are not likely to see any great
performance improvement from SATA vs. IDE, nor will you see a really
noticeable improvement from going to a RAID 0 setup. There is an article on
the web that I found discussing this and showing some real-life performance
measurements. The result was that the speed improvement will not be
something you will likely notice (10% better?). Unfortunately, I can't find
the link at the moment. You might find the following link of some help - it

I am currently running a RAID 0 on my boot drive. The results are
underwhelming, but it is already setup and I have not yet had time to change
it. Something to think about. In a RAID 0 setup, if one drive (or
controller) fails, you lost access to both drives! For me, the main benefit
of the RAID 0 is that I get one very large drive instead of two drives.
Others prefer to have separate drives, so it is a matter of personal
preference.
