Subject: Re: Old Computer upgrade question HP 8570c

I understand that And I really dont use this more for basic word typing and
occasionally light gaming most intense thing i do is counter-strike on this
machine so no big deal. I only use when i pass by my dads. And my friend is
also upgrading a PC and i was going to do it for him. So the video card
question applies to both me and him. Anyone know?

motherboard and it seems to only take uhm 258 mB in total am i right? Ok...

According to HP's website, you are correct. The maximum memory your mobo
will support is 256Mb of PC133 SDRAM

... And also wanted to put a gfx card in there maybe 6600 nvidia
but would that work for my motherboard / computer...

Probably not. It appears on the HP website that details the mobo
(
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?dlc=en&lc=en&product=58698&lang=
en&cc=us&docname=bph07171 )
that you do have an AGP slot, but it probably does not support the proper
voltage. That and it is probably a 2x/4x slot. You would need to find a card
that is compatibale. Older MX series (ATI) or possibly an older ti4200
(nVidia) come to mind. You could find these cards on the cheap online. With
your processor being the bottleneck in most cases, why would you want to put
such a high powered video card in? Kind of like putting a turbocharger on a
weed wacker engine. (No disrespect meant, just using for emphasis)

... But yeah my processor could use a bit of a boost as well in total im
going to spend around like 200-300 bucks...

The max supported processor for your board (according to HP) is 450Mhz.
Although I did note that you have jumper pins that will set the FSB at
100Mhz and the bus frequency ratio (multiplier) to 5.0x(5/1). That
translates into 500Mhz, but keeping in mind for a mere 50Mhz increase in
processing speed you are jeopardizing the whole rig which really is not
worth it. Bottom line: if you want to add a few items to the PC to make a
small overall difference you can with limited results.
