I don't know how to do it, but there is a bit of real life number you may need
to look at.
an APC 280W UPS can hold a typical system for 10-15 mins. on a full-tower
machine (P3-450 I think) with basic graphics, NIC, SCSI, one harddisk, 15"
monitor.
