First I would solve the overheating problem and then see if there are really
any other problems remaining. You will need to access the cooling fan
(normally under a removable cover plate) and clean any excess dust from the
fan and from the exhaust port. Then see if the fan is working. After that,
determine if there are any remaining problems.

Excess heat can cause numerous problems.

Hope this helps.

Hi everybody:

A friend gave his IBM thinkpad 600 to try to fix it has the following
problems;
first went to turn it on there are two short beeps follow by the error codes
00161,00163,00192 and sometimes a four code 00171 a press OK, then appears a
hardware test program the let you test anything, so the test everything; in
the system board the following errors appear DEV 001,ERR 91 FRU 3610, also
it tell me that the tempurature is too high inside the PC. I found that the
two beeps mean either is either a video problem or a motherboard problem,
error code 161 means dead CMOS battery but I don't know where is located
because I don't a manual, my friend lost it, I don't what the rest of the
codes mean. Please can't someone help me? Can it be fix? Is it worth fixing?
or should my friend be better off purchasing a new laptop.
                                              Thank you for your help.
