Is this a SATA drive? Some older computers don't recognize SATA drives.
You must Press F6 when installing XP to load the driver from a floppy,
which opens another can of worms if you don't have a floppy.

Subject: [PCBUILD] New HDD is not recognized in laptop HP dv6102od

My laptop HP dv6102od was running XP pro. It had crashed many times
before I changed a new hard drive. I've been installing new OS XP on the
new HDD, but window setup did not see the HDD after finished loading
window files (said: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in
your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and
properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware
configuration si correct. This may involve running a
manufacture-supplier diagnostic or setup program Setup cannot continue.
To quit Setup, press F3.)
I ran HDD diagnostic in Bios SETUP, it completed Pass. I tried using
the old HDD, it was same problem, not recognize HDD at all.
Now, after power on, the screen have only the console flashing on the
top left corner.

What is that problem? Please help, I appreciate it.

Thanks.
