Is the old HD working? You could just clone it, or briefly re-install it 
to get the number.
Sony should be able to help you with the number, but I'm surprised it's 
not included in the CD install.
Usually, when you boot to safe mode, you get a choice whether to include 
CD ROM support. Try safe mode again, and see if the option is offered.
To leave safe mode, you usually just reboot.
Check the BIOS to see if the CD is recognized.
