Uzi,

I have a Microtek III 1200dpi model that was well below $100US.  It's a
parallel port model and it "shares" the port with a Zip drive and an HP
printer all connected at once.  It has (I think)  better than average
software and runs very fast in b/w mode -- less than 15 seconds for an 8 1/2
x 11 scan at medium (200dpi) resolution.  Naturally, higher resolutions
and/or color will be slower.
