This probably is a less likely problem, but I've seen the front USB ports on
a computer case get pushed back away from their intended location (the ports
just clipped into place on the inside of the bezel).  If you haven't
already, try your memory stick in a USB port on the back of the case that is
directly attached to the motherboard.
