I had an interesting thing happen that I have never seen before last week.
I had a Seagate 4.3 gig SCSI drive that made a real loud noise (like the
heads went past the end of the disk platter and slammed into the side). and
at the point the system quit booting (funny that) At first I didn't know
what happened but I kept hearing the noise it sounded like music playing
and it was coming from the PC box and I was also getting a single long
beep. At first I taught it was the PC doing it but I have not hooked up the
PC speaker as of yet on the machine. I finally found the source of both the
music and the beep. it was the Hard Drive. I have since returned the HDD as
it was under warranty. I just wanted to see if the music ( I think it was
the HDD trying to spin up?) and the BEEP were features that I was un aware
of. and while I do know a bit about how things work I also know that I do
not know every thing.
