Jack, I think you started this thread several weeks ago, so I will defer to
your superior knowledge. I have read and been informed that loading a lot
of fonts hogs resources and slows the boot process. I have used HP's
Fontsmart 3.0 app (it used to be a freebie on HP printer installation
software, but now you have to buy it from their web site) to install and
uninstall fonts for this very reason. I have cut my loaded fonts to about
250, and although it doesn't make a noticeable difference in the length of
the boot, I can't say as fact that it save resources from personal
experience. I've never ever received that message that I am low on
resources. I don't monitor them (that eats resources), I just don't leave a
lot of stuff running at the same time. My quicklaunch bar in Win 98 has
shortcuts to everything I regularly use, so there is no reason to keep apps
running all the time. Periodically I run Memturbo to recover RAM, and
that's all I do. But everyone's system is different, so what works for me
or you may not work for someone else. Joel

Marv/Joel:

Re: "Fonts, etc"

1. Our "Resources" start off at boot-up somewhere around 94%/86% for
GDI/User. (Thereafter, they rapidly head downward.)
2. Fonts. The foregoing Resource percentages are notwithstanding having
some 950 fonts actually *installed.* [System: Amd K6-2/350 with 128M or
256M RAM (immaterial)]
3. Thus, I don't see *fonts* as a Resource problem. Also, we haven't made
a serious effort to reduce "resource" usage. That doesn't mean we don't
have RAM memory "leaks." According to our RAM meter, RAM seems to leak
off, even after a complete reboot!
