A rhetorical question would be what OS seems to be missing,
and if the drive was NTFS or FAT32 (if you know...)
(Include that if you write to the list again...)

Starting with simple stuff:
I would go into system set-up.
When the computer first comes on you need to hit a certain key.
(Sometimes different for different brands, and sometimes instructions
are on the "early" screens...)

Once you (or someone you trust to do it correctly) are there, I would
check to see what was set to BOOT first...
More than likely, it will be set to HD, or HD-0 or some such thing...

If it is set to boot first from CD or some other device, some BIOSs will
"give up" and you will get the message you are receiving...

If none of this makes any sense, I'd stay out of there and call a good friend
that knows about computers and enlist their help...
