Perhaps one final thought (I don't remember it being covered...) is to check
if there is an additional power switch at the back of the machine,
independent of the front power switch...

It may be something simple and obvious, and if it has been covered already,
I apologize, but on some of the units, there is an additional power switch
on the rear of the unit.  Just a basic on/off switch, having nothing to do
with voltage selection...but it is there nonetheless <gee, how I wish I had
been able to spell that word a few years ago>
