Sandy, They are way behind the times.  Studies for the past few years have
pretty conclusively proven that Paleolithic humans ate flesh foods.  As far as
I know this fact has been accepted by most of the enlightened scientific
community.  A few vegans and fruitarians are not happy with the findings but
you can't please everyone.
