Looking at Abdoulie Wade exit power the way he did , it is easy to note how
much the man has changed for the worst . This is a man who personified the
struggle for change ( Sopi ) for Senegal dating from1974 when he formed the
Partie Democratique Senegalaise ( pds ) .

With his personality and charisma Wade could mobilize  every section of Sene-
galese of society . In the elections of 1988 , in which Wade was believed to be
the winner , people rioted and a state of emergency was declared . Many people
lost their lives and the school system lost the academic year . Wade was jailed
but soon released due to public outcry .

The political establishment , in place since independence , was not easy to up
root but with the consistent determination of the Senegalese people the P S -
Partie Socialiste - was finally voted out of power .

This ushered in a spirit change and hope . Senegalese thought that their hopes and
aspirations which they have fought for all these years will be finally realized .

This hope was dashed . Wade turned the opposite direction . He pillaged the re-
sources of the state and created a class of nouveau riche out people who were
not there during the years of struggle.

He created so many ministries just to satisfy his growing list of cronies . He mani-
pulated the constitution to his favor multiple times culminating in his failed attempt
to win the presidency with just a simple majority .

Perhaps Wade thought that he was the sole force behind Senegal's push for better
governance , he was wrong . This is a collective acquisition of political consciousness
built over time and consolidated over the years .

Wade leaves his presidential seat with a lot of humiliation . If only one could read
inside his head , one of his wishes would be  to have presided over a populace like the snake shaped country inserted in his  - The Gambia  !

Macky Sall has no option other than do his best to keep his promises.  Senegalese political activitism have matured. The Senegalese have defied the rubbish Ndiguels from fake religious leaders and this is significant for i think it shows democracy have evolved to another level. These are signs of a maturing democracy in Senegal. No more will people follow blindly some lunatic like Cheikh Bethio Thune claiming to be a religious leader whilst he is a fraud merchant playing on peoples fatalism.

Citizen movements such as Y'en A Marre, Fecce Macci Boole, M23 and others have planted the seed of real substantive as well as true participatory democracy  with blood, death, and incarceration.  President Macky Sall will not survive a day if he tries anything else other making Senegalese institutions function for the benefit of the people.  I for one I am hopeful because he has demonstrated leadership and responsible in the way he manage everyone to support him.  He seems to humble and a good listener.

Long Live Senegal!
Long Live Africa!

The Wade family did a lot of dirt with the people's resources and they should be accountable so that Macky and his group will also take note. They cannot make the same mistake that Wade did with Joof, only to refine and retrofit Criminal Inc., in Senegal. Accountability does not mean abuse. It is a legal process to take back what ever that was taken from the people of Senegal, illegally, or to correct wrongs that need to be corrected. Senegal side steps this process and they shall find themselves fighting against Macky or his successor to no end. For many that are in Macky's coalition have their own agenda and if he is not careful, he will sink with them. Like you, I'm happy for the people of Senegal for showing us once again, that no one or few individuals can abuse a people and get away with it.
