The Weekend’s Humor: Local Languages
Recently, during a meeting with his cabinet, while under the intoxication of herbs, Jammeh announced on National TV that Gambians will start using the local languages as the official language. As at now, it leaves a whole confusion for not only western diplomats in the Gambia, but Gambians as well. Further, it is not clear which of the languages will be adopted, so people can prepare for the inevitable change of the official language. Jammeh who claims to have friends among the demonic dominion might as well choose that as our official language, in which case he will get to decorate himself with another accolade of the highest importance, one that no one has ever earned, not even the late Idi Amin Dada of Uganda. I guess we can now guess the new title –Professor of languages with focus in Gambian local languages.
I am working on collecting Gambian local alphabets. If you know any letter in our local languages, please do share. That would be the century’s inventory. Come to think about this….
To the cabinet that kept laughing, clapping and clamoring, here is a good reminder, thus: “He who sleeps with dogs, wakes up with fleas.”

Best for a joyful weekend ….
Yero.
