I have little choice but to share this deep and thought provocking poem by Rene, whoever he is. This one is well written and rationally argued.

The vociferous voices are silent
the partisan bickering ebbs
the moment of truth draws closer
the garment of ethnic pride
worn sleekly up our tattered sleeves
divisive and condescending
it brings to the fore
the latent ethnic biases
the drumbeat of proud tribal warriors
deafens the polluted political battlefield.

We stand accused
our loyalty is deeply ingrained
buried deep in our subconscious mind
that we are first and foremost
a Wollof, Mandinka, Fula or Jola
a Serer, Manjago, Serahule or Pepel
and the hypocrisy of our intellectual nuances
falls falt on its deceitful face;
we parade ourselves as genuine patriots
our allegiance unabashedly ethnic centered
with a perceived interest motivation
our passionate chorus
a disharmonious appeal to an opposition divided.

*****

The gates of their hell stood wide ajar
and their conscience imprisioned;
their sense of decency stripped naked.
They marched through the gates of this hell
their rendezvous with destiny
the hell of their atrocities;
they breathe with unrepentant perfidy
and puff in this abode of treacherous disrepute.

The gates of their hell stood wide ajar
with their godly posture and arrogant disposition
with their crude mentality and unbridled appetite
to dominate and to exploit
to satiate from the excesses of power;
they marched through the gates of their hell
the hell of their gluttony;
they drip with the blood of the innocent
they soak in the tears of a people hungered;
a people impoverished
a people maligned and robbed.

Rene
