*Continuing their Nationwide Consultation T**o**ur, **the UDP Youth Wing led
by Mr. Shyngle Nyassi, the party's National Organising Secretary, visited
villages in Nia**ni and Sami constituencies in the Central River Region,
welcomed by jubilant crowds of supporters, sympathiser as well as defectors
from the ruling APRC.*
*The first meeting was held in Naini** *Kunting where the village
chairman, Baba Jawla, lamented on the lack of clean drinking water in the
village which he blamed on APRC failures and broken promises. He advised the
villagers not to jeopardize the future of your children by taking bribes
from APRC politicians. All the speakers pledge allegiance to the UDP.
In Sinchu Karaba, the speakers stated that the village is traditionally an
NRP stronghold but will now rally behind the UDP leader, Alhagie Ousainou
Darboe as he is a son of Naini. They also stated that they have always known
that the APRC is up to no good and that is why they never supported them.
Similarly, a tour of the villages of Pakau Fula and Pakau Mandinko had its
inhabitants expressing regret in voting for the ruling APRC and promised to
cast their votes for UDP, come the 2011 presidential election.

In the village of Casse Wolof, It was a case of once bitten; twice shy for
the villagers who voted for the APRC on the back drop of a host of promises
that were never fulfilled. They noted the failure by the government to
facilitate the marketing of their groundnut produce despite repeated
promises. All the speakers expressed regret for voting for the APRC. The
villagers then appealed to Mr. Shyngle Nyassi, the National Organising
Secretary, to ask the UDP leader to the visit the area as soon as possible
so that they can express their support for the UDP personally to him.
A colourful reception met the UDP entourage in the village of Sami Madina
where its chairman, Ousman Dahaba warned party members to be wary of being
politically blindfolded by the APRC.
In Sami Ponchokey were several people defected to the UDP, The village
chairman, Morro Halima Ceesay, told defectors to remain loyal to the UDP ‘as
you were not forced to cross carpet.’ Among the same gathering was one Dawda
Ceesay, who defected to the UDP from the APRC with over 200 defectors.
Mr. Ali Gano of the village of Njalal stated that there were 386 registered
voters in the village out of which only 36 traditionally vote for the UDP
since 1996. He however stated this has now changed as 250 APRC members have
now defected to the UDP. The defections were then confirmed by the UDP
entourage who travelled to the village and were met on arrival by jubilant
villagers waving the party’s flags and colour and chanting; Wee Darboe! Wee
Darboe! The was followed by a short meeting in which speaker after speaker
expressed the village’s regret for voting APRC in the past elections.
The Consultation tour continues in the Upper River Region with planned
meetings in Wuli East, Wuli West, Sandu and Kantora Constituencies.
