It is also the faith behind the prayers which makes them truly work. If we analyze the words we say, we can determine just what it is we believe about our prayers.

That is correct. It is the heart behind the prayer

It is not so much whether prayers are said aloud, as how effective the prayers are which are said. I really don't think it matters to God whether prayers are said aloud or are said silently. As we are to pray without ceasing. The most effective way to do this is to converse and fellowship with God silently. That has been my own experience in any case. That is how I pray without seasing.

I do think too much is made of this. Because the mall police wouldn't have gotten to most of us by the time the prayers were over. In any case, a mental prayer can happen without anyone being the wiser. That is why prayer can't be practically outlawed. Till the government becomes so good at spying on us citizens. It will be able to tell what we are thinking.

When I was a kid in the fifties, during lunch break, someone was appointed to go to a window shelf where a 3-note xylophone and its mallet were kept. A user would carry it and pick out a table where kids were eating and when, he or she, tapped each note down the scale, or up the scale, everyone stopped eating and remained quiet. You could bow your head, or not, and pray or just sit there but there was about 30 seconds of silence. Then the person tapped the three notes the opposite way and talking and eating resumed. That elementary school is still there with about 600 students I through 6th grade but I bet the practice was killed many years ago.
