On South Shore LI on a clear night I always wonder at the incredible number of
aircraft moving around. The flight path for NYC/Europe is just offshore and
south of our house. We also have a lot of smaller aircraft going into
MacArthur in Islip, and our local airstrip a few miles north of the house. Our
summer is filled with small planes with banners heading to or from the beach.
There is also a military presence with helicopters of varied types and sizes,
as well as a few Coast Guard. When I first looked at the conjunction I assumed
it was another black helicopter.
