You need to be very careful using heat to remove paint, since the lead in  
the paint may be vaporized at temperatures below which the heat source 
operates.  I found one source who claims that lead oxides used in paint may 
vaporize in the  800 degree range; however, this source seems to be trying to 
sell  lower-temperature UV paint removers.
 
Be careful in any case.  There's also the possibility of burning your  
substrate, or the rats' nests behind the clapboards.

I will get back to  you on this. 
I need to call Duffy Hoffman in WV and get his input on brand  names of 
equipment.
