There is no place that invokes the gothic like Salem Mass ; unfortunately  
they blew it .;anyone who has ever been here is familiar with Hawthorn and 
the  seven Gables ; the customs house ; the 17 th century homes and bonding 
houses  ;the bars the goths ,the lurid ladies of the night and the  wood  
mold  making shop at dockside down by Pickering Pier .
Salem until the 50's was real deal ; the boston Salem rail depot (torn  
down) could of have been in translavania ; replaced with 60 Schlock 
tThe old east church was  designed by Levfever sp 1840) Nyc ) was  top of 
its game . Two spindly      " tall gothic towers  (presbbyterian for those 
who don't know ) towering into the sky   ;crenalations or more appropriately 
melons right out of bella lagosi 
sat on top  we suggested they be  put back (the missing 12  ft of tower) 
with cloistured window   .

conserve it with treatments (to be discussed ) no one size fits all as far as  
treatments (when did it ever )  
the project is simply preserving 140 yr old portland brownston e but inside 
 they got the wood header (rudad check this out ) over the 1692 etrance to 
the  jail the witches passed through .
The Old east ;not since since the first customs station (clinto castle 1789 
 ?) or earlier graves have i worked on such american antiquity ; true i did 
work  on Iona(8th;12 century)
